Informational Happy Hour
We invite local business leaders to learn more about about joining Austin Gives, a FREE program committed to promoting and recognizing local business philanthropy in Austin, at our free informational happy hour on Wednesday, June 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Truluck’s restaurant. The benefits of joining Austin Gives include year-round recognition opportunities via social and traditional media, as well as an annual recognition opportunity at our GeneroCity Awards luncheon; further differentiating your business in a competitive market; improving our community; and contributing to our mission of putting Austin on the map as “best-in-class city” for business philanthropy!

Second Business Philanthropy Workshop for 2014
Building a Better Biz Thru Employee Engagement Workshop
Austin Gives presented, “Building a Better Biz Thru Employee Engagement,” a free interactive workshop designed for businesses interested in learning from local leaders how to successfully engage employees through your philanthropy plan. The workshop included an overview of the advantages of employee engagement in philanthropy by Beth Krueger of the United Way For Greater Austin then a panel discussion led by Ed Kargbo, president of Yellow Cab/Hail A Cab Austin. The panel featured Rob Solomon, CEO of Bulldog Solutions, Virginia Visser, Principal of Workplace Resource, and Ben Hunsaker, Community Impact Lead for The Advisory Board. In addition, the workshop allowed time for table discussions among participants to dive deeper into the topic of employee engagement and how it can contribute to the success of their business.

Faster, Better Biz Philanthropy
Austin Gives presented, “Faster, Better Biz Philanthropy,” a free, highly interactive workshop designed for individuals interested in building effective business philanthropy plans. Debbie Johnson of Austin Gives, Sam Woollard of Successful Giving and Beth Krueger of the United Way for Greater Austin introduced participants to the seven main elements used to construct philanthropy plans – the perfect follow-up to Austin Gives’ “The Six Benefits of Business Philanthropy” workshop last October.

Second Annual Luncheon to Celebrate Business Philanthropy
Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel
Our second annual luncheon to celebrate business philanthropy was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 11:30am to 1:15pm at the Four Seasons hotel. Mayor Leffingwell kicked off this luncheon with an inspiring keynote speech by John Paul DeJoria, Co-Founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems and Patron Spirits. Bobby Jenkins, Austin Gives Board Chair and President, ABC Home and Commerical Services, also shared the inception of the organization. Judy Maggio and Walt Maciborski, both KEYE TV anchors, were emcees for the event. The luncheon’s purpose was to celebrate business philanthropy by bringing together generous Austin businesses and the nonprofits they support. Three exemplary business philanthropists were honored during the program with a GeneroCity Award based on philanthropy leadership (see Awards section of this website).

Over the course of the year, Austin Gives plans three main types of events:
Annual luncheon celebration
As described above, our signature event will be an annual celebration of business philanthropy, bringing together businesses and the non-profit community they support. We hope to hold this event during the first quarter of each year.
As was the case in 2013, awards will be presented to a small, mid-sized and large company (based on employee size) who exemplify giving back. There awards will be given to Austin Gives members and based on an application process. Please visit the Awards page for more detail.
Business philanthropy seminars
Periodically we will offer seminars on topics intended to enable and equip us all to get even better at philanthropy. Watch our eNews for information about these seminars. If you are not on our eNewsletter recipient list, please sign up here.
We will hold a recruiting event approximately annually to let us bring together non-members to hear our story and hopefully join us. Again, watch our eNewsletter for notification of this event. And sign up here if you are not currently receiving our eNewsletter.
2013 Luncheon to Celebrate Business Philanthropy
Tuesday, February 26th, 2013 at the Hilton Austin
Our first annual luncheon to celebrate business philanthropy was held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Hilton Austin. This luncheon featured Roy Spence, Co-Founder & Chairman, GSD&M / Co-Founder & CEO, The Purpose Institute, as the keynote speaker. He shared his insights on the importance of business philanthropy and why businesses should have a PURPOSE, beyond just making money.

This once a year luncheon’s purpose was to celebrate business philanthropy and to that end brought together Austin businesses and the nonprofits they support. Additionally, three exemplary business philanthropists were given the GeneroCity award based on their philanthropy leadership (see Awards).
